look at landscape, search for beauty, see the truth

Colonies

I have always struggled to do close-up landscape work approaching the quality of my great friend David Ward, but I continue to try. Space and openness attract me, whereas intimate landscape photographs often work best seen as little enclosed worlds. When I find something marvellous up close I am tempted to put it in a wider context, or to suggest ambiguity of scale in the subject matter, echoing a broader landscape. Those pictures shown here work I feel, in spite of my wider preoccupations.
